Boozle's Discovery

[acrylic on wooden serving tray]

18"x18"

My objective here was to take one of my colorful characters and render him monochromatic in order to create dramatic emphasis on the lower right corner of the composition. The use of black and grays makes the bright blue appear to have an otherworldly glow.

Lookin' good JG. What a clear family of work.

What's very interesting about this picture is the supernatural light reflected in the eye of the Boozle. That his eye appears both to reflect the supernatural light from within the Earth (or whatever ground on whatever planet) and project it from within himself, makes it a very mystical sort of piece for me. It's almost as if the Boozle is in the process of uncovering the hidden Gold of the Mystics: the Philosopher's Stone. The hidden treasure only found within, and uncovered only after a long and arduous journey to discover it from without.

this is badass. the glow effect creates a lot of depth and i feel like it's probably pretty hard to make it work as well as it does here.
