On-The-Fly Art

Hooked up my homegirl [Allie Higgs] and home boy [Avi Minkoff] last weekend with some art I drew up real quick using sharpies on some cedar slats I found in the alley. She got a satisfied Schmoople while he got an angry octopus.

Custom Bible

I made this custom cover on a Bible we gave my best friend Stephen and his bride Heather for their wedding present.

Electric Ooze & Electric Ooze Reprise

I covered both of the Electric Ooze pieces with thick layers of epoxy.
The ultra-gloss surface made the colors ultra-pop.

The Whoopee Cushion Tragedy

[mixed media on wood]
12"x12"x1.5"

I got the idea for this experimental piece when my son Isaac came in the house crying upon popping his brand new whoopee cushion while jumping on his trampoline.

Boozle's Discovery

[acrylic on wooden serving tray]

18"x18"

My objective here was to take one of my colorful characters and render him monochromatic in order to create dramatic emphasis on the lower right corner of the composition. The use of black and grays makes the bright blue appear to have an otherworldly glow.

Out There

20"x24"

[acrylic on canvas]

I wanted the background of this one to seem very ominous and infinite. I recalled seeing this artwork from The Flaming Lips' At War With The Mystics cd.

Home Sickers

[acrylic on 2 wood panels]
Each panel 12"x12"x1.5"

Creation of The Boozles

[acrylic on canvas]
16"x20"

I've been drawing these characters for years. They're called Boozles. My son says he likes this one because it reminds him of Dr. Seuss.

Terror of The Flogbert Kraken

[acrylic, india ink, and gesso on paper/canvas]

The background of this one is a composite image I created with McDonald's Trash. I had friends/family collect the trash for me over several months. Languages on the trash include English, Spanish and Russian.

The Lost and The Found

32"x40"

[acrylic on canvas]

This is the piece I created for The Telephone Game at Austin's Gallery Lombardi in July '07. I was guest curator for that show, coordinating 12 artists (including myself) from 6 cities. Read my interview about that show. View photos from the show's opening.

New Day

[acrylic and gesso on 4 canvases]

Factory Girl

[acrylic on canvas]

I created this one in Jan. '06. This piece reminded me how much I missed painting. At one point the factory was a Baghdad double decker bus. After struggling to finish this painting for several months I opted to cover the bus w/this little factory.
